7 "Musts" to Consider in Becoming an Interim Pastor
You must be flexible.
You must embrace and love change.
You must network.
You must articulate your sense of call to this ministry with clarity, authenticity, and grace.
You must stay up to date with denominational policies.
You must practice self-care.
You must practice spiritual discernment in your own life and be comfortable modeling it before others – session (board of directors), staff, congregation.
Ideally, you enjoy reading broadly including the classics of adaptive change theory, family systems theory, pastoral and transformational leadership, and congregational life. For a list of my favorites see ‘What Transitional and Interim Pastors Read’.
